THE “fact” that junk food is cheaper than real food has become a reflexive part of how we explain why so many Americans are overweight, particularly those with lower incomes. I frequently read confident statements like, “when a bag of chips is cheaper than a head of broccoli …” or “it’s more affordable to feed a family of four at McDonald’s than to cook a healthy meal for them at home.”

This is just plain wrong.

companies of all stripes must not only recognize that everyone is responsible for marketing but also impose accountability by establishing a new set of relationships between the function and the rest of the organization. In essence, companies need to become marketing vehicles, and the marketing organization itself needs to become the customer-engagement engine, responsible for establishing priorities and stimulating dialogue throughout the enterprise as it seeks to design, build, operate, and renew cutting-edge customer-engagement approaches.

Digiday - MediaOcean's New Leadership Answers Critics

What are MediaBank and Donovan Data bringing to the table, and how does it fit in a Google-dominated ecosystem?

Bill Wise: The large industry players like Google, Yahoo and Microsoft are looking to unite touchpoints and systems across the solution stack. They’ve done a phenomenal job of bringing order to chaos. But, again, the solutions they provide aren’t neutral. MediaOcean is an independent party, and it will provide that holistic management but with neutrality.

Very interesting fight ahead.  No reason media companies couldn’t build on top of MediaOcean but that clearly isn’t what they want to do.

Don Draper pitches Facebook Timeline – Boing Boing

Lots of people passing this around.  What no one seems to be talking about/writing about is the insight that the writers of MadMen tapped into that is key to Facebook as well.  The industry focuses on Facebook as Media/technology company.  What this video does a great job addressing is how for most people Facebook is extremely personal.  The profile page is fast becoming, if it hasn’t become, a person’s home on the web.

MediaOcean

The number of companies now circling Google is tremendous.  This merger of Donavon and MediaBank is just one of many companies assembling to stop/slow Google’s progress at becoming the entire “Stack” for advertisers.

Or, another way to look at it.  Google is effectively sucking up most of the oxygen in the business that it is forcing arch enemies to come together.

You be the judge.
